Ha! No record win as India beat Australia

India_win India have just beaten Punter's Australia to ensure that this team will not get the record-breaking 17th win.  Am I a bad person for being slightly happy about that?

The win brings to an end a fascinating little period both in terms of cricket on the field and off it, and a victory is no more than India's endeavour and attitude has deserved.   There was much hope before the series that India could win a Test match or two, but I doubt anyone predicted it would be at the WACA, where India's fuorever maligned pace attack would not be able to exploit the conditions.  How wrong we were.

What can we expect by means of epilogue?  Well, Harbhajan still has his appeal to go to, so the fourth Test at Adelaide could still be in danger; the Aussie public are still not too happy with Ponting at the moment; and Kumble will have plenty of ammo to galvanise his troops for the next, must-win Test.  Interesting times indeed.  [Image: Getty]

The fourth Test in Adelaide was never in danger from Harb's Hearing. It was all delicately arranged to take place AFTER that test. What is in danger is the ODI triangular series between SriLanka and AU and India. India has now decided not to pull out unless Harbs gets a free pass and has magnanimously agreed to accept whatever decision the judge makes on that matter. We'll see. Maybe, maybe not. Maybe AU wont accept the judges decision should Harbs be found to be just a playful guy with a jokers outlook. That's remote, but certainly not an impossibility. Having agreeed to accept the decision by the judge, no one really knows just how it may go should it not go India's way ... they have tended to swing a bit on it. Matters have been put in hand should they decide to exit.

But one thing tends to sway me from any thought that India will pack up their shite and go home, and that's the 20/20 , India V AU at the MCG on Feb 1st, the day after the hearing. This is India's big moment to either confirm their place as 20/20 World champs, which is very important to them , or go down the gurgler. I don't think they will do a runner because of that game and the chance to play it in front of 100,000.

And no. it isnt being bad to be glad about the loss of the 17 th win record. I think that 18 wins in a row would have been a hell of a hurdle for Pup to cross, 17 seems about right and I am sure that at some stage, he'll do it as captain in the future. Or some other AU cap will. whatever.

of course, they could still piddle off AFTER the 20/20 and BEFORE the ODI's..They'd have to be quick , though. Still, Flight 86 SYD/MUM leaves daily.

fine by me. Their decision. Who would step up to the plate for the Tri? well.. probably an AU (a) team at such short notice, but hey.. It's most probable that the decision has already been worked out, and Harbs is dipped in OMO, which leaves Ricky, Symonds, Gilchrist, Hayden, Lee , Bucknor, Benson and Cricket AU with a problem.

It would rather be better if the teams put this thought away...Let them fight out a proper battle and entertain us on the field rather than off it...Probably the Cricket Australia went a step too many regarding this issue that seems to be troubling not only Harbhajan but also CA..

Got tickets for the match on 22 Feb - surely Pepp we'll be seeing the tri-series?
