Performance of the Day - M A Carberry

Carberry For his middle name alone, Alexander, 26 year-old Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry deserves some recognition. However this is not why he earns today's PotD (and for the second time in only 2 months). He gets it for a stonking 127 which included 20 fours, in the County Championship Division One match at Kidderminster against Worcestershire today. Only day one of a four day game, obviously, but nonetheless, a superb showing that certainly gets the questions going. Why do these top-level county performers not seem to be potential England players? Is the system not right? Are the Counties not strong enough?

And where is a man with Hector as his middle name?

I like Carberry a lot - he is also a quite brilliant fielder. Some players just get tagged as not good enough, and I think that's a shame.
