ICC World Twenty20 - Villain of the day: The Bowl-Out

76759993 The World Twenty20 has not disappointed. Spectacular batting, athletic fielding, see-saw matches, vibrant crowds, the occasional shock, and some tough cricket in the middle - what's not to like?

Until tonight. Showing great resolve to play some wonderful cricket in less than ideal conditions and roared on by partisan but good-natured supporters, India and Pakistan played out that most exciting of cricket results - the tie. That was exactly the right result. But someone, no doubt having read too much about "kissing your sister", had decided that Twenty20 needs winners and losers in every match and that the bowl-out was the way forward. It's not.

So why didn't India and Scotland have a bowl out in the nets yesterday then?

For what my opinion is worth, I thought this was rubbish tonight. Not least because no-one seemed to know what to do, so yet again the ICC rules are a load of manure, and it is SOO inconsistant.

Made a mockery of a fine and exciting match that was drawn. What the bejesus is wrong with a draw?

Some of the most famous matches ever played have been ties. Don't understand the concept of bowl-offs especially when matches can be washed out.

My villian was of course the man with the mouth but not the grit to back it up. KP taunting the Australians was the sort of stuff that Aussies love. In Adelaide he tried the same stunt for the same result. He sure is a slow learner.

What I really don't like, because it is too harsh and clearly not cricket, is the free hit after a no-ball. That was trialled three seasons back in Oz domestic and scrapped after one season because it was patently unfair to the fielding team.

Less gimmicks please. Let the cricket do the entertaining.

Nesta - KP and Free Hit were both villainous, but the bowl out was hideous.

Nesta-what about all those times McGrath spouted his mouth of about whitewashes and humiliations?its part of the game,if you cant take then dont give it,you cannot criticise someone for doing what has gone on for years in Aus v Eng battles.

To back Steve up a bit, KP has actually delivered (Oval 2005) but not as often as McGrath!

KP to be fair hasnt had as long a career as McGrath, give it time Toots ;0)at the end of the day its all said tongue in cheek to spice it up a bit,no more,no less than that.

Let's be having it Steve!!!

Steve,

I think you misunderstand the Australian psyche. We sledge each other for fun and if you can't back up your words you will be roundly known as a fool.

McGrath backed up his statement every time. Do you know that McGrath in his whole 15 year career never played in a losing live Ashes Test.

Perhaps I shouuld let my captain have the final say, "Unless blokes can back up their words with deeds they don't mean anything at all. If anything England were the ones who left humiliated today."

It's not the first time Pietersen has fired up the opposition and England have been beaten. I can think of three and I don't watch him play too often. Adelaide, the losing Test v India this summer and again yesterday.

I don't care if he continues to do it but if I played with him I would be encouraging him to let his bat do the talking.

You may see it as a bit of banter but I can assure you that Ponting doesn't. It motivates him and consequently his team. It's a dangerous game KP plays and his compatriots Smith, Pollock and Boucher have all tried it for the same predictable result. Another humiliating loss. THe Saffas have more respect these days and when Kevin discovers that too, England will be better off.
