Australia are dedicated followers of fashion

75980039_2 Australia are to don sleeveless shirts - known to the rest of us as "vests" - for the Twenty20 World Cup. Yes, really.

Adidas are all excited about making the world's first sleeveless cricket top, which will apparently give Ricky Ponting's world champion one-day side "increased muscle support and comfort at all temperatures."

"The ICC World Twenty20 tournament will involve fast games with short recovery periods,"  said Ponting in a statement from the side's Queensland training camp. "This new uniform has been specifically designed with the players' comfort and performance in mind."

Not trying to er... muscle in on the Aussie Rules replica kit market surely? Shane Watson will be pleased.

At least it's not a calendar like the Hampshire Hawks!

Vests? And aussies are interested? Try netball. This smacks to me of commerciallity.

Vests! Gaaah! With vests come ... armpits. Naked armpits at every delivery. I also don't see how no sleeves can possibly provide increased muscle support.

Miriam, fear not they have a loose fitting body and skintight sleeves and look riduculous.

How are they sleeveless, then? Is this some kind of Aussie conspiracy to confuse us?

I'm not Giorgio Armani....I'm Alan Partridge but the picture on www.cricket.com.au appears to show a yellow top with grey sleeves. Those Aussies would play in mankinis if they thought it gave them an advantage.

Those pictures on the Aussie site seem to show tops underneath the actual sleeveless vests themselves - you can see the separate garment on Ricky Ponting's right shoulder. Maybe we'll be spared the sweaty armpits if players choose to wear tops underneath the vests.

I've just looked at the picture (thanks Bushnumpty). That is a tank top.
