Test Match Special: The West Indies Series
On a rather dull opening day of the first test match against the West Indies at Lord's - and that's dull in a weather way as well as the cricket - I find myself glad to be following the (inaction) on the radio and computer rather than the television.
I make no apologies for illustrating my words with a picture of Richie Benaud for he is truly the doyen of cricket broadcasting, and much missed on these shores. However, those at Test Match Special have done a little to brighten my day today.
Not only have they given us the high standard of ball-by-ball commentary that we are accustomed to, but we've had some entertaining chat and interviews during the rain, lunch and tea breaks.
At lunch I found myself sniggering, yet again, at the Aggers and Jonners leg-over hysterics and then just heard a sentence that could only ever be found within the strange and, to the passer-by, totally surreal world of cricket coverage.
For your pleasure, dear readers: It's always dangerous to top-edge one up your nose.
Now, where else, I ask you, could such words be spoken, and are they translatable into any other language?

Like Wodehouse, I find TMS a guilty pleasure. I should consign it to the Knacker's Yard, but it does keep on keeping on.
A quote of the day from TMS might go down nicely!
