Boycott blackballs Blackwell
Geoff Boycott has trashed Ian Blackwell's performance in the first Test. Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Boycott says: '....he found Test cricket just a bit too much for him. He didn't make any runs and his bowling was local league stuff...'
Boycott is tipping the selectors to go for another seamer or Shaun Udal. The blunt yorkshireman is now the self-appointed expert on all cricket matters. And he does often have some good comments. However, for the record, I don't remember Boycott's bowling ever being much cop. He always used to
run up with his cap the wrong way round like some modern day rapper. And there were plenty of days when he didn't make any runs to the exasperation of the England team and the likes of the more talented Ian Botham, who was forced to run Boycott out on one famous occasion.

I was a proponent of Blackwell in the Test team a long time ago. I was disappointed in his performance in the first Test, but I didn't see it, and heard it described as 'hesitant'. I hope the selectors give him another go. I think his bowling can be very useful on a turning pitch, and if he is disciplined he can make good runs down the order. I may be proven wrong but I hope it's on the strength of more than one attempt.

I agree there with Chris Weston... Give Ian atleast another chance in the team. His perfomance was hesitant more than disappointing, his captain too was hesitant to ask him to bowl. I would really like to see Blackie bowl a bit more , I dont think what he bowled at Nagpur is best.I just hope he isnt put in the list of England's One test discards...

I agree with Geoffrey Boycott. Udal has already bowled in Pakistan. He has the experience and better control than Blackwell. If England wants, they can go in with four seamers and one spinner.
This would be my line-up come Mohali
1.Alistair Cook
2.Andrew Strauss
3.Ian Bell
4.Kevin Pieterson
5.Paul Collingwood
6.Andrew Flintoff
7.Geraint Jones
8.Mathew Hoggard
9.Stephen Harmison
10.Monty Panesar
11.Shaun Udal or James Anderson
I think it will be a fascinating test match.

Blackie has worked immensley hard to get into the England team. Not that long ago he was on the verge of being dropped from the Somerset team due to his preference for pies and cider over practice and training. Now he is the Somerset captain and is widley credited with helping turn their side around.
He will never turn the ball like Shane Warne (just like Ashley Giles or any other English spinner or any other spinner come to think on it) but what he does offer England is some quality batting lower down the order. He has the ability to bat sensibly for long periods of time to get a draw. But when he lets loose he is devastating. Some of the fastest hundreds and double hundreds of recent years in county cricket have been scored by a certain I. Blackwell. Imagine Petersen followed by Flintoff and finally Blackwell laying into a bowling attack.....

I agree with Geoff Boycott-he still has one of the sharpest minds around-
Liam Plunkett or Anderson to come in for Blackwell..
By the way Boycott at his age would still do a better job for England than Ian Bell at no. 3
He would last half an hour at least..
